Impossibilities Challenge-My Game Room

January 31, 2012

Two weeks ago I signed up for the Impossibilites Challenge in an effort to re-energize myself into completing a project that had been stalled since last fall. You can read more about the history of my game room here.
Well, I am happy to say that the challenge was exactly what I needed to complete the project.  As I mentioned , I work best under pressure. Always have.  As a result, last Friday I had surgery on my hand to repair some tendons that have been damaged partly because, yes you guessed it Pressure to get projects done!

So, with one hand and the help of my hubby, I finished the project over the weekend.
Remember, this is where I started

And the space today

I hope you like the space, not out of pity because of my injury, but because you think
it 's a pretty cool space too.

Get Your "Hop" On!

January 28, 2012

When I showed you my Breezeway, I showed you how I incorporated a hopscotch board into the space. I wanted to show you the tutorial on how I did it. As basic and as easy as it seems, unless I had seen this illustrated somewhere (can't remember where) I would not have thought to do it. Maybe I will inspire you to get your hop on as well!
Supplies Needed
  • Masking tape. I choose Red to coordinate with my room. Masking tape now comes in a variety of colors, so choose one that works with your space.
  • Scissors to cut the tape
  • Ruler or Measuring Tape
  • Numbers for your board- I used numbers that I cut out of vinyl with my silhouette machine. You could also use pre-cut numbers.
Choose the area for your board. The size depends on how big/small you want your board to be. My space measured 13ft x 7 ft.

Begin taping off your squares. My squares were 20inch x 24inch to accommodate the space that I was working in. Again, the dimensions of your board are totally up to you.
When your squares are completed , you are ready to place your numbers in the squares

Now you are ready for the kids to play!

Thank You, Thank You Soooo Much

How flattered was I to receive the "prestigious" Liebster Blog Award yesterday by Jen at Harrison Home.

The Liebster is an award that is given to a newbie blogger who is recognized by a fellow blogger. I have always appreciated peer to peer recognition. Quite frankly, I can't remember the last time I won such an award, I believe it was in high school when I was awarded the most likely to succeed... in blogging.

Wow, who would have thought. And now, many moons later ( I will never tell how many moons)  I have achieved success!
I do appreciate the accolades and will be passing the crown on shortly to other new blogs- Just let me savior this moment for a few minutes longer-okay?
Fyi- that's not me, that's the other "Laura"- 2012 Miss America

PS. Please check out  Jen's blog ( gotta check out her Family Room) and my fellow Liebster winners.

The end of the relationship?

January 26, 2012

I had a rather, well just let me be honest here, ugly book shelf in our den that houses my childrens books.  I wanted to change the color to brighten it up, so I threw on some ASCP in Old Ochre.
I was a little suspect at first since the material on the shelf is veneer, BUT the paint should go over anything, right?
WRONG!! This is the point that my relationship was almost over. Panicked, I applied 2-3 more coats on the front and inside.  The outside and top did just fine.

One item that needs to be in your decor

January 22, 2012

Wire baskets are a great accessory to have in your home decor. There are so many uses for them. I wanted to show you a few ways that I use them in my home and provide some ideas for how you can use them in yours.
Use them to display fruit
Use a wire basket to hold/display dinner plates
Use them to display towels in the bath
 Bread basket for the table
Use the same basket for keys and phones and place on the
entry table.

Use a basket to store magazines and newspapers.
From bathrooms to kitchens and rooms in between, the possibilities are endless.
Make it the best day ever!
Baskets are from-Pier One ( bread/key photo) and Hobby Lobby (all other photos)

The table that almost was'nt meant to be

January 20, 2012

Someone gave this table to my mother who was getting ready to "kick it to the curb", shame on them.
Luckily my mother said yes.
Originally, the table had black legs but I painted them a cream color a year back. My mother still wasn't thrilled with the table and asked if I can help it. No problem!
I applied one coat of ASCP Old White to the legs ( since they were already cream color) and two coats to the top of the table, and  distressed the edges with a medium grit sandblock.

The table is a stunner!

My mother is so glad that she did not pass this one up after seeing how beautiful the table looks.
You know what they say, someone's junk is someone else's treasure.
