When I Grow Up

February 29, 2012

A few very awesome blogging buddies recently asked the question " What Do You Want Your Blog to Be When It Grows Up" initially I thought they were asking specifically about me, but then realized that this was pretty easy to answer since my blog and me kinda have the same goals.
Take baby steps for now
I started my blog in November 2011 and knew nothing about blogging. Since then I have continued to pace myself by taking small steps by leaning one new thing a week. From learning about where to "party" each week, to finding out what photo tool I will use when Picnik goes away. I have also found an enormous amount of information from other blog sites.  In addition,I am so excited to be attending the Haven Conference in June to pick up some new techinques and skills to help grow my blog.

Develop a great networking system with other blogger's
If I am falling and holding on for dear life, I want to  know that I can count on you, my network of support to help me out. I want to do this by not being afraid to ask for help if I need it. It's okay to feel like everybody else knows more then you, because at this point they do! The first person that I ever reached out to was Tricia at  Morning T , she was so supportive and continues to be a friend that I would count on for questions and advice regarding my blog. I hope I can also serve as that same mentor for other bloggers in need.

Not be intimidated
Everyone has had to learn to swim! I look at some of the other truly successful blogs like Jen at Tatertots and Jello and Kate from Censational Girl
and am totally inspired by the quality of their sites and in awe at the number of followers. I aspire to have both as well, and realize if I build it, you will come. I just need to remember that I still float in the kiddie section and they are jumping off the high dive!

Sit back and relax
I want to develop a better and more efficient system where I can capture my pictures and organize and file them for future posts. I often find myself scrambling for photos to include in the post right before I hit the publish button.

Have Fun
Whether my blog continues to grow into a steady business and better yet, BHG comes knocking at my door, I want to have fun. I want my passion for doing the things that I absolutely love to do to resonate with my followers, and the people who make a choice to read me each day.Thank you by the way!

So, I am bearing my soul and co-hosting with a few of my awesome blogging buddies
Andrea from The Cottage Market

If you would also like to bear your soul regarding the goals that you have, will you share them with us this Friday, March 2? No worries if you need a bit of time to think,  as the party goes live on Friday am at 6 CST and stays live until Thursday, March 8 at 11 pm CST. So, grab a button and join our linky party.

"What Do You Want Your Blog to Be When It Grows Up"
multi link party. See you then!
BTW- One goal I forgot to include was to host a linky party. I can strike that from my list!
PS-The sweet little baby in the picture is my son . He is now 6 and no longer swims in the kiddie section.

My inspiring nature walk through the Great Smoky Mountains

February 28, 2012

My family was fortunate to get away to Tennessee over President's Day weekend. We have always made the Great Smokey Mountain National Park a yearly event and a nature hike part of the tradition. My kids just love everything outdoors so the trip is always perfect.
It was during this walk that I began to be inspired not by the clear, beautiful rapids of the water
or the gorgeous old hardwood trees that have grown into their own unique shapes over the past hundred years
or looking down from 6,600 feet at the most visited national park in the United States.
My inspiration this day was found here
Don't get me wrong this is absolutely beautiful
but on this particular day it was just
It was everywhere and it was so beautifully green when everything else was'nt.
So, I am working on a few projects using my inspiring nature walk and moss. As soon as I get my head out of the clouds, I will show you what I come up with.

I am really happy for you...really

February 24, 2012

The other day as I was reading how Christina at No.29 picked up this up Ballard's mirror on the side of the road
I thought to myself, hmmm, maybe I can be so lucky and find something so wonderful, beautiful and free.
I wouldn't mind finding one of these beauties on the
 side of my road
That would make me happy,
or one of these would be super cool
Or, I would be over the moon thrilled if I found this
But no, instead I found these
Wait... look, there's 2. How awesome is that!
Anybody need a mattress? I would be happy to share my roadside treasure. I will even deliver it to you.
What  junk treasure have you found on the side of your road?
Note: Unfortunately living in the country has it's disadvantages, one of them being the above which was taken on the way to drive my son to school. People see country roads as a way to dump used, nasty, old mattress's and their dogs . I don't get it.

It's a sea of Gray

February 22, 2012

For the last several months I have been grappling with the lack of personality that my office exudes.
It's the think tank of the house and she is BORING!
So, it's time for a refresh.
Months of seeing posh, simple and clean danced in my head while I was sleeping, and then the vision was starting to come together.
First things first.
The color.
I knew I wanted gray, but had no idea that there were so many different shades of the color.
After 200 swatches I have settled on 10

and then down to the final 4

Here's some of the  inspiration that moved me for my office project

Let's see how I can put all these inspiring images together to create a Think Tank worthy of a Thinker!

What to do with 1970ish furniture??

February 20, 2012

My girlfriend tapped into my love of restoring and painting furniture, and asked if I would help makeover a bedroom suite of furniture that she had. Gladly, I obliged.
She had a love for my Drab to Fab table and wanted to do everything in the ASCP Old White .
She was a beauty in her time, but it was time for some serious updating.
First thing was to wipe down all the furniture as it had been stored for quite a while. I removed all of the original hardware.  I started with the drawers first and applied two coats of paint. Then, I used medium grit sandblock and distressed the edges.
For the dresser, I applied two coats of paint. I distressed all of the edges with my sand block and applied wax to the top and sides of the dresser.

Since my hand surgery a few weeks ago, I have learned how to do a lot, including painting, sanding and waxing with my left hand.  In this photo, I still had the stitches in my right hand. Not bad for a lefty.

Let's go back to my Sisters House

February 18, 2012

Remember back in December we let ourselves into my sisters house when she wasn't home? Well this time, she graciously invited us back. I am so thrilled that the magazine Wellington The Magazine  included her home in the February,2012 edition. Feel free to click on the link to the magazine.
One thing my sister does really well in her home is accessorize. You will find vintage pieces from estate sales, overpriced items from Horchow and great finds from Home Goods. That's what it's all about- mixing it up.
So take your time and look around.
I love this piece. Believe it or not, these are antique dental jars.
These are old canteens that were used as ceremonial oil pots. It is hard to see in the picture, but the intricate detail on these pots is incredible.
These globes were a Home Goods find. Makes a great grouping in a den or study.
Hmmmm. This fun piece was purchased at the open market in Charleston and created by a local artisan.
Here's a few other rooms.

Well, I don't want to over stay the welcome. My sister is not accustomed to the southern charm and hospitality that us Georgia Peaches have with people just dropping by and never leaving!
Happy Weekend! Hope you have something wonderful planned.

A whimsy idea to throw around

February 16, 2012

I like to walk around certain stores to breath in some inspiration. The other day it was Pier One and I happened to spot these fun little .....
they are bigger then a marble, smaller then a Que ball and have numbers and letters on them
they are glass and the perfect size for my children to pick up and throw or roll around the house ( what am i thinking!)
So I ended up buying some of them because I thought they would look whimsy in a glass jar on a shelf in the family room where we can sit around and try to figure out what they are.
Hope you are having a great week!
