6 of my favorite Holiday Wreaths

November 29, 2013

Happy Friday! I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving.
Did you eat too much yesterday.....turkey or pie?
Are you eating leftovers right now? We try not to over cook for fear of overeating ....for days and days.
Today is all about the wreaths, since the first thing I decorate for the holidays is my doors. From natural materials to deco mesh, my doors have seen them all. Today I am sharing 6 of my favorite wreaths that I have made and have hung on my doors during the holidays.

Pinecone WreathI will be sharing the tutorial on how to make this wreath next week.

Festive Deco Mesh-  I used pink, and silver deco mesh ribbon on a white wreath base.  I included a fun ribbon with the same pink and silver in it as well as champagne glass. Perfect for New Years!

Holiday Deco Mesh-  I used red and silver deco mesh ribbon along with a coordinating ribbon that had both colors. I also added a reindeer that I spray painted silver.

Holiday Deco Mesh- I used red and green deco mesh and included a coordinating ribbon in the same colors. To see these on my doors click here.

Happy wreath making!

I would love for you to stop by my Holiday Home 2013 here

PS-  One of these wreaths are making a repeat appearance this year. Can you guess which one?

Grateful for~
Excitement of the holiday season

Outdoor Holiday Lighting Ideas

November 21, 2013

The day is fast approaching.
Just a few days away.
I can hardly wait.
I have been waiting 365 days for this day to come and it is almost here.
November 23rd.
It's my national 'hang the lights outside' day. My families self proclaimed holiday. A day that I am anticipating with delight.....not to be confused with Da- light.
My husband......not so much.

In preparation of the big day around here, I thought I would share a few outdoor lighting ideas and tips that we did last year.... since we take lighting pretty seriously around here. And even though my electric bill is just 'slightly' higher in December, to see the excitement on my kids faces when we count down and turn the lights on for the first time, is so worth it.
It's Joy....complete and utter Joy.

This year we have plans to do the driveway lighting again...... I just have to remember to tell the UPS man that he has to walk the packages down since his truck wont fit under the arches.  This is such an easy lighting project and you can find the details here.

I love the lighted icicles hanging from the house They are a pain to unravel but once there up, I just glow from excitement....or it may be from the lights. To make hanging the outdoor lights on the house easier each year, we installed little hooks in the trim that we keep up all the time. It makes the hanging process go so much quicker, and hubby is happy to as he goes up and down the ladder hanging each section of lights.

My backyard is as bright as the front yard with lights.  I like to use net lighting in my shrubs. If you need several strands of lights, make sure you follow the recommendations on the package of how many you can safely plug into each other. You don't want to create a fire hazard.

If you have left over lights, lay them on the ground along a walk way, landscape border or driveway for extra impact. These were extra strands of icicles that we did not use. I just laid them along the bricks. This year I want to hang them along the roof line and gables....  Can someone please tell my husband. I am afraid of his reaction when I tell him the plan.

A timer can save on time and money if you are putting up outdoor lighting. You can pick one up at any home improvement store. Just program the time that you want you lights to turn on each day and what time you want them to shut off. Makes it a whole lot easier then trying to remember to shut them off before you go to bed each night, and will save lots of money in electric costs should you forget and leave the lights on till the next morning.

So whether you are climbing the ladder to hang your lights or just supervising the ladder climber like me, I sure hope you are safe and that your month is that much brighter!

Do you climb the ladder to put your lights up or leave that to someone else?

Grateful for~
Lights, ladder and a husband who never complains

Customized Pillows for a fraction of the cost

November 20, 2013

If I counted up the amount of money that I spent from not being resourceful and doing it myself.....I would probably have enough money to feed the world.... and then some.

You see, for years, I wasn't the DIY or resourceful type. Quite the opposite actually. If I saw it in the catalog or store and liked......I bought. Without even a thought of doing it myself and the money that I could save.

But something changed, and I grew resourceful. I thought differently....and had children. Instead of pulling out the credit card to purchase what I like from my favorite stores, I was trying to figure out how I can make it and save money.

Kinda like these monogram pillows that I just finished for my Master Bedroom. I bought the fabric online, I followed my pillow tutorial here and had the monogram stitched locally.

I would have easily spent $40.00 each for my linen fabric pillows.....but instead I spent about $14.00 for each pillow. That's quite a savings and money....... that will come in hand for the things that I can't make.

How resourceful are you?

Grateful for~
Compassion

I prefer the simple things in life ....Fall Tablescape Tour

November 14, 2013

I prefer going to a concert in the park......... before going to a symphony
My husband likes me best in jeans and a tee-shirt....rather then getting all dressed up.
I prefer using a vintage crock for a flower vase....instead of a fancy glass one.

I prefer using Chinette .... instead of real china
I would purchase goods from a local mom and pop shop ....before a big chain store.
I prefer wearing my flip flops....... over high heels.

I prefer picking flowers from my yard....instead of buying them at the florist.
I prefer using bandannas on my table.... instead of using napkins

I prefer garden fresh produce.....over store bought.
A night out with my husband, is sitting on the back porch having dinner....instead of being in a crowded restaurant.
I prefer burlap runners on the table.....instead of a table cloth.

I will take fresh squeezed orange juice......over a carton any morning
I prefer wearing my hair in a pony tail....instead of an up-do.
I like drinking champagne out of a solo cup........ instead of a glass flute.

I prefer to snuggle on the couch with my family watching a movie ....instead of being in a crowded movie theater.
I prefer flea market finds ....over fancy showrooms.
I live in a town with 500 people........instead of a city with many.

And even with it's flower arrangement with sticks from the backyard, mismatched white plates, orange spray painted charges and individual flower bottles used as placecards placed on each plate.....this is what I prefer this year on my Thanksgiving table.

So tell me, flip flops or high heels....which do you prefer?

I hope you will visit all of the bloggers on this tour for some amazing tablescape ideas.

Grateful for~
the simple things in life
