My 2014 Year in A Blog Post

January 5, 2015

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. I have enjoyed the last couple of weeks, not picking up a paint brush, moving a piece of furniture and not even thinking about what the next project was going to be.
Totally appreciated......... family time and every aspect of the holiday break. Wearing my PJ's until dinner time..... without feeling guilty. Watching endless amounts of the Hallmark Channel, HGTV and Home Alone. I was so rested that I actually stayed up till midnight New Years Eve, to give my hubby a smooch.

Kicking off 2015 wouldn't feel complete without looking at some highlights from 2014, a year in which I think was pretty amazing for me, my family and the blog.

My favorite room reveals for the year

Happy New Year- 2015

January 2, 2015

I wanted to pop in and wish you all a very happy new year.

It seems that once I got into my jammies and bunny slippers to ring in the new year...I didn't want to get out of them. And since the house is on break a few days more..... I don't think I will.

Actually I have been getting some well needed rest, both mentally and physically over the holidays.

New Years Treats

December 29, 2014

Our yearly tradition of Chinese take out in our jammies will prevail this year except for one thing......the addition of eating these cookie balls while drinking champagne and sparkling juice when we watch the ball drop.

I am so glad that I took a hiatus during the holidays from losing a few pounds, cause these cookie treats are so stinkin delish. Crowd favorite, they look pretty and are super easy to make.

Resolutions for the New Year

December 20, 2013

If you are anything like me, you have at one point or another sat down prior to the New Year and jotted down some resolutions…… a few  goals and some key things you wanted to do in the upcoming year.
And perhaps your resolutions sort of looked like mine.  Resolutions like......... Lose ten pounds by the end of the week (even though it was already Wednesday) Fall in love or be abundantly happy staying single, save more money and enjoy life to the absolute fullest.  Am I right, do your resolutions look similar?

Here’s one for you. Did you know that approx. 45% of Americans usually make a New Year’s Resolution and out of that number only 10% are successful in achieving their resolutions? Yes, only 10% lose that 10lbs, stay single and happy, save more money, and enjoy life to the fullest.  Sadly, I was never the 10%. Most times, I could not make it past the first month without some sort of failure. So for a few years,  I stopped resolving, ended the yearly ritual and just adapted a one day at a time mantra. Then I got older and got married and had kids. Thankfully, the 'fall in love' resolution was a success.
Now, my life embraces a whole different set of goals and resolutions. Since I am not getting any younger, I am constantly thinking about how the activities and choices that I make daily will have a significant impact on the way I age.   And it’s not just something for me to think about, but my children and husband as well.  That is why the Get Old initiative is so meaningful.  Get Old is an initiative developed by Pfizer to challenge people of all ages to rethink what it means to Get Old and take a more active role in their health and quality of life at every age.
Now I look forward to sitting down and creating a list of resolutions that I am determined to reach in the New Year. In fact, studies have shown that people who explicitly make resolutions are 10 times more likely to attain their goals.  So here are my Resolutions for 2014. Stay fit and healthy through exercise and proper eating. Spend more quality time with my husband. Continue to evaluate my quality of life and make any necessary improvements along the way. Create more family memories.  Give back more to others and to my communitySo tell me, what are you doing to Get Old well?

New Years Is At The Door

December 28, 2012

This year my front doors will be getting more dressed up for the big night then I will.......

all gussied up in vibrant pinks, silver and sequins.
Me- jammies, footies and a pony tail.

There will be no mistaken identity when they show up to the party with their scrolly monogram initial covered in metallic paint.
These babies are going all out!!
And when it's time to make a toast, the champagne glass is
 ready to go.
I on the other hand, will be sipping hot tea and honey with
Vicks Vapor Rub between my toes.
 But that's okay,
Just looking at them makes me feel all fuzzy, festive and better.
And since I won't be ringing in the New Year at any other place then my couch with my hubby, I will keep them up for a few weeks and probably feel the need to count down every time I see my doors!
Happy New Year!
Hope you are having a great week.

Grateful for~
The wonderful year that I have had, despite getting sick the last week of the year!

Another Idea for the New Years Table

December 29, 2011

Here is a simple but beautiful look for your New Year's table. This look is my favorite as it best represents my overall style and taste.

On each plate I put a number representing 2012. I used cream and silver dinnerware on top of a natural burlap table runner.
For an extra touch, type up your New Year's resolutions and place in a beautiful frame. This is a good conversation piece at your table. You can also take this idea and place the frame anywhere in the house as a reminder of your resolutions throughout the year.
I made a party hat and placed at each setting. To make, I cut out a hat template ( I used a kids hat) using white cardstock and covered it in burlap. I then embellished the hat by adding silver tulle to the top and bottom.
Don't be afraid to try different things. This centerpiece was a antique silver bowl tipped upside down with a silver charger placed on top. I added champagne flutes to the center.
Use that same silver bowl to create a beautiful chiller for your champagne and flutes. To do this- Add ice to the bottom of the bowl. Next insert a round mirror or plate on top. To create a stable base the mirror or plate must be wide enough.  Now you are ready to add your bottles and glasses. This idea is much prettier then most ice buckets, don't you think?

I hope you have found some inspiration for your table setting this year.

New Year's Tablescape Ideas

December 28, 2011

I 've been working on some ideas on how to dress the table for New Years Eve. Whether it's a romantic dinner for two or dinner for a crowd ( or maybe just dinner in your jammies on the couch) , I hope that I can inspire you to create your own amazing table.
I cut out a template for party hats in black cardstock. Add baubles and boa feathers and wala!
I used my silhouette machine to cut the letters for "cheers" and "happy" and placed on my plates
Place a silver charger on the base of a lampshade to hold champagne and glasses. Use left over fabric to make napkins and to drape on the table.
For an extra special touch include a beautiful  photo and frame and include in your tablescape.
Now you are ready to ring in the New Year!
