Happy New Year- 2015

January 2, 2015

I wanted to pop in and wish you all a very happy new year.

It seems that once I got into my jammies and bunny slippers to ring in the new year...I didn't want to get out of them. And since the house is on break a few days more..... I don't think I will.

Actually I have been getting some well needed rest, both mentally and physically over the holidays.

Behind the Scenes of the Christmas Card 2014

December 18, 2014

Each year I look forward to planning and sending our Christmas card, so friends and family can get a chance to see the kids and how much they have grown over the year. The cards are important to me.... but not so much to my children.
This year  to avoid the very predictable "oh mom, why, do we have to" I decided to come up with a clever way to get them more interested and excited about the good ole yearly photo.
Camo, backyard, tire swing.

I think Lily's face says it all. Don't you?

About 2 seconds after getting dressed and jumping on the backyard tire swing, I am thinking that maybe my camo idea was going to back fire. Did it just make the boy's want to play and...... be boys, all while sweet lily, donning the cutest camo skirt, stood perfectly poised while this was going on.

Happy Thanksgiving

November 26, 2014

I just wanted to pop in and wish each of you a very Happy Thanksgiving.

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.~ Melody Beattie

I just love this picture (source unknown).  It speaks peace, calm and simplicity.

Keep Warm....and Drink Cocoa

November 18, 2014

I will never forget the first Christmas that I spent away from my family with my then boyfriend, who would later become my husband, and his family in Lafayette, Louisiana. And as I was missing my family and our own family traditions, I was creating new ones as the entire gang of them , the siblings, spouses and 20 kids, made sure to make me feel welcomed and loved while we laughed hearing family stories, played games and....drank cocoa.

Why We Are Thankful....

November 5, 2014

I am putting aside my paint brush, the stories from the farm, jokes about my donkey and the project list today, in order to bring you something much more gratifying and from my heart.

I am very thankful and blessed ..... that my children have grateful hearts. A core belief that my husband and I walk through our life with daily. We remain conscious of the gifts and feeling of thankfulness in our lives.

Explaining "Chicken Heaven" to Your Child

April 2, 2014

The first day of our Spring break started off with my own first..... explaining Chicken Heaven to my son.

If you follow me on Facebook here you saw that we got 6 little chicks on Friday. Now we have 5. This adds to the clan of 2 donkeys, 3 dogs, 3 kids, 2 cats, 7 fish, 4 deer that broke my fencing the other day while jumping, 1 husband and a pack of screaming coyotes that kept me up the other night.

My children were ready to experience chickens, ready to care for them, ready to collect the eggs....just not ready for the demise of them.

If you don't live on a country dirt road, surrounded by the sweet smell of chicken farms being cleaned out ( not really it's a nasty stench) or have raised chickens in the past, you may not know that the mortality rate of baby chickens is very high. Reasons can include pre-existing sickness, or living conditions such as lighting and heat, which is one of the main reasons for early death.

Reasons we can understand....... but not my little guy.

Have you ever raised chickens or had the "chicken heaven" conversation...... how did it go?

Grateful for~
the comforting hug and love from daddy

How To Recover from Cabin Fever during a Snow Storm

February 17, 2014

I am so glad that cabin fever set in last week ( believe it or not) during our winter storm, and that I decided to take a walk around the property. A walk that not only rejuvenated my mind, but my soul as well. Changing the way I would look at things.... through my lens.

A walk that would remind me of how beautiful a tree is ....even with no color.

Or.... how abundant and full trees can look without their leaves.

And, that my bicycle I never moved before winter, still looks pretty sitting on a bed of snow....so why bother moving it now.

Or..... how a grey sky, really doesn't make me feel blue at all.

Or..... how I never saw that the bank of the lake looks like a sand dune on a beach.

How this trail on the property, could lead to something really exciting...kinda like the adventure of life.

And, that it's okay for my kids to leave their tractors in the middle of the pond....and freeze over. It could make for interesting conversation.

This image, reminds me of how blessed I am that my husband is a hard worker, sitting at his desk during the week or..... chopping wood to keep us warm on the weekends.

And...... how a dog, really is a gal's best friend.

When's the last time you tried to see something differently..... with or without your lens on?

I am busy working on these projects here and here. I will be back at the end of the week with some updates and hopefully a reveal.

Have an amazing week.

Grateful for~
No power outages and safety during out winter storm event.

My Love Story and Easy Valentine Art

February 1, 2014

I always tell my husband that I wish I knew him my whole life. He says....."you have".

When you love someone,
all your saved-up wishes start coming out.
- Elizabeth Bowen -

He tells me we are soul mates and destined to be together....
I say " I know"
Real love is feeling like being a part of that person's
life almost isn't enough. It's more like a feeling that
you would live in the same skin with them if you could
and share every thought, heart beat, and emotion as one.
- Rod Cannon -

And when we married....we said  "I do"
 One woman, one man
with hearts so true
come before you
to say I do...

He takes her hand
to have and to hold
Their hearts embrace
and never let go...

The love of one man
The love of her life
They join as one
as Man and Wife...
- Gretchen Gould -

And then one day our love story grew....  into a beautiful family

Love is when you look into someone's eyes,
and see everything you need.
- Kristen Kappel -

This sequins heart represents how every other project and craft is done in our home, regardless of how big or small....with love, heart and purpose. Memories, that will create stories for our book..... that we will be reading for a lifetime.
And each day, I look forward to turning the pages in this wonderful story of love!

Valentine Sequins Heart

Supplies needed:
chalkboard paint
Sequins- I used 2 1/2 packs for this heart
Paint Pen

Step 1: Apply chalkboard paint to a blank canvas board. Allow to dry.

Step 2: Trace a heart on your board. I used this heart as a template.

Step 3: Secure the sequins inside the heart with a hot glue gun. I started with the outline first and then worked my way inside the heart.

Step 4: Continue overlapping the sequins in the heart until it is completely filled.

Step 5: I used a paint pen to write the 'X O'. Use a piece of chalk to season the board.

Love with all your Heart!

Grateful for~

Snow Jam 2014....it finally happened!

January 31, 2014

Well, the snow FINALLY came to North Georgia this week. The highly anticipated snowball fights, building a snowman and trying to decide what to use for a mouth and catching snowflakes on the tongue....... really happened.
And sadly, the kids really lasted only about 5 mins playing in it.
After all that hype, talk and decision making, 5 mins was all they could stand.

Luckily, the kids, dogs and donkeys did give me enough time to get the camera out, and take a few pictures so we can all remember..... Snow Jam 2014.

Who knows, maybe next year we will make it to 10 minutes.
How long can you last out in the snow?

Stay warm!

Beautiful snow day with the kids

PS- I hope you will come back tomorrow when I share a special post on love....ahhhh.
